After deciding to get married, your choice of venue is probably the next biggest decision you need to make! Maybe you already have a dream location in mind, or maybe you are just feeling overwhelmed by the pressure to make a ‘perfect’ choice. Whatever camp you are in, here are a few tips to help you get started.
Make a list of your priorities
We all have a list of ‘must-haves’ and ‘nice-to-haves’ when it comes to our wedding. A common priority is a location that is convenient for the majority of guests to travel to. If this is a factor, draw up a preliminary guest list, and decide how many people will require overnight accommodation, proximity to a station or airport, or other special access needs.
What’s your aesthetic?
Once you’ve put the practicalities in place, you can get going with the fun bit! Do you dream of a romantic castle in the background of your wedding photographs? Maybe you are set on a particular time of year, so that you can have a backdrop of beautiful spring flowers, or the lushness of a summer in full bloom, or perhaps glowing autumn russets and golds!
Maybe you are more focussed on the quality of the catering and entertainment. If so, check out if these are provided by the venue, or if you can bring in services you have selected for yourself. If you are making your own arrangements, make sure you book as early as possible, so you don’t have to end up settling for second best.
Be flexible
It may not be a good idea to dismiss a venue straight away, just because it doesn’t measure up to every detail on your list. Nothing can beat visiting the venue to have a look around, and letting your imagination get to work! Take your list of ‘must-haves’ to check it ticks all the boxes, but be prepared to compromise on a couple of ‘nice-to-haves.’
