How to Feel Confident and Empowered for Your Boudoir Session

So, you’ve taken the plunge and booked your boudoir session, but you’re having a few pre-shoot jitters. What if you’re too nervous to go through with it? Will you come across as awkward on camera? What if your fantastically feminine body is so sexy that it shatters the camera lens? Well, only one of those things has a chance of happening, and it’s not either of the first two! It’s totally normal to feel a bit apprehensive before your session and to want to prepare yourself in the best way possible. Allow me to share with you some of my top tips on how to feel confident and empowered for your Boudoir Session.

The Cruciality of Confidence

Coming to your session full of confidence really helps to transform the whole experience. If you are already in touch with your inner goddess from the moment you step through the door, that is going to translate so beautifully on camera and help us to capture some great shots that really show you at your sexiest and most empowered. Of course, if you’re struggling to connect with that confidence to start with, then I will guide you through the process and hype you up until you are oozing all the sultry vibes, but it really takes the session to a whole new level if you’re feeling yourself from the word ‘go’.

How To Feel Confident and Empowered

So, how can you tap into that inner confidence? It’s all about your pre-session routine. When I say that, most people tend to picture a huge amount of physical preparation like waxing, face masks, blowouts and all manner of other salon procedures. If that’s what helps you to feel like the sexiest version of yourself then go for it, but don’t underestimate the power of mental preparation. Simple positive affirmations can make a world of difference, as can taking a moment to envision your most empowered, fabulous self absolutely bossing the boudoir shoot.

Trust Your Photographer

Having a photographer that you can trust (hi!) is key when booking a boudoir shoot. Although the process is all about celebrating sensuality and confidence, there’s obviously an element of vulnerability too. Being able to trust your photographer, feel comfortable around them and take direction from them will really help your photos to pop. Imagine the person in your life that’s your biggest cheerleader: it might be your partner, your best friend, your sister… anyone! During your shoot, you want to feel like that person is in the room with you, hyping you up and making you feel like you can conquer the whole world. That’s how it should feel when you work with a great photographer.

Power Poses

The idea of posing sounds terrifying but it’s really not. Posing for a boudoir shoot is all about knowing which movements help you to feel the most confident and sexy and slowing those down for the camera. There are a few beginner poses that can really accentuate your feminine curves and help you activate seductress mode.

For example, creating a power triangle by kneeling on a surface (the floor, or a table, sofa or bed all work well) with your knees apart can help you to harness some strength while leaving your upper body to pose as you desire. Alternatively, you could opt for a laying down pose, arching your back to create a gap between your lower back and the floor, and accentuating the natural curve of your body. For the upper body, hands in your hair, tangled gracefully above your head or even suggestively skimming your chest can all look absolutely sensational. If all of this sounds scarier than the idea of an empty chocolate packet, never fear. Your photographer will be there to guide you every step of the way.  Remember:

“There is no gate, no lock, no bolt that you can set upon the freedom of my mind.”

Virgina Woolf

Conclusion – How To Feel Confident and Empowered

Finally, when taking part in an experience that hinges so much on visuals and aesthetics, it can be easy to forget about the deeper purpose of your boudoir session. This experience is a journey of self-discovery and empowerment, allowing you to reconnect with your most confident self. This is a chance for you to practise activating your inner goddess mindset and allowing it to radiate out for the world to see, even when you’re fully clothed and going about your day-to-day life. Everyone has an inner badass bombshell: let’s bring her to the surface and let her shine!
